Another year has passed and we continue to attract thousands of youth to our annual events. With the support of our sponsors and volunteers we have been able to host a variety of activities that connect our young people to their community. During the winter and spring we host our Elementary School Youth Dance at Tansley Woods Recreation Centre, followed by the High School Battle of the Bands at the Burlington Music Centre. The competition of the bands is always exciting, as the winning school band is invited to open our signature event, on YouthFest Day. This year YouthFest will be held on May 1st, 2010, at Central Park with a few thousand youth in attendance. Community village is a featured opportunity on YouthFest Day, where over 35 community agencies host booths to provide information for volunteer opportunities, connecting our energetic youth to meaningful volunteer experiences. The Burlington Youth Advisory Action Group (YAAG) is well represented by students from high schools who work with the YouthFest Committee. It serves as an organizational structure to provide opportunities for leadership development, community service and social events for Burlington teens. Today's kids are tomorrow's leaders, knowledge workers, teachers, public servants, inventors, explorers and parents. The experiences that help to form them as young adults will guide their actions throughout their lives. Co-chairs, Robert Chambers and Terry Milson are extremely grateful for the support of their partners, City of Burlington, Halton Catholic District School Board, Halton District School Board, Halton Police, corporate sponsors, community agencies, service clubs and our student and adult volunteers.
